Building healthy relationships is essential for a balanced life. Having chaotic relationships all around you can be extremely stressful and self defeating. Healthy relationships add stability, support, and love into your life. In a world full of turmoil and stress it can be extremely helpful to have others to listen and care for you! There are many ways to build healthy relationships with those around you.

One way to help build a healthy relationship with your partner is enjoying activities together. Try new things with each other so that you can find common interests to share. Try each others favorite activities so you can understand what they have a passion for and maybe share in it! It is ok to not like the same things, but trying to enjoy things they like can show them that you care and are interested in what they like.

Talk about problems and issues you have candidly. Hiding issues and ignoring them will catch up to both of you eventually and may cause even more problems after it has "simmered" for awhile. Many couples set aside time to have "checkups" and talk about the difficult issues. Simply having a set time to just sit and talk without distractions can be wonderful for a relationship! Arguing is normal and should be expected to some degree. If things begin to get too heated in an argument then it may be beneficial to drop the matter and cool off before continuing. Arguing while you are both angry could cause either of you to say or do things you don't mean and will regret.

The main thing to remember in a relationship is that you don't have to change who you are and your partner shouldn't either. Try to compromise when possible but also learn to accept differences and love each others "quirks."
